CONTINUING EDUCATION

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a structured way for interior designers to keep their knowledge, technical skills, and professional qualifications up to date. In BC, continuing education requirements ensure high standards of practice every year.

Harmonized Standards

What It Is

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a structured way for interior designers to keep their knowledge, technical skills, and professional qualifications up to date.

In British Columbia, continuing education program requirements have been managed by IDIBC since mandatory learning was introduced in 2002, an essential step in establishing interior design as a regulated profession. In 2012, IDIBC aligned with the Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) to adopt a harmonized national model. This ensures all professional interior designers across Canada meet the same high standards of practice every year.

Members track and log their completed credits through the IDCEC (Interior Design Continuing Education Council) online system or mobile app.

Professional Responsibility

Why Ongoing Learning Matters

  • Maintains Professional Standing: Completing mandatory CEUs fulfills your annual professional obligations with IDIBC and IDC.
  • Protects Public Health & Safety: Continuing education ensures designers stay educated on structural safety, accessibility, sustainability, and evolving building regulations, directly supporting IDIBC’s mission to safeguard the public interest.
  • Elevates Your Practice: Staying informed on emerging tech, materials, and specialized design methods keeps your work competitive and innovative.
  • Strengthens Our Industry: Demonstrating a shared, rigorous standard of ongoing education advances the push toward a recognized Practice Act in British Columbia.
